December brings the holiday season and everyone most look for a gift for a special person. So what is out on the market and what is coming, here is a list of the following DVD coming out and what you should get for the holiday season.
The first release is Anna Netrebko's new christmas Boheme. Netrebko's harrowing and raw interpretation was one of the highlights of the Salzburg festival this past summer and is one that should not be missed by Netrebko fans or fans of the opera.
The next release is also from the Salzburg festival. The opera is conducted by the legendary conductor Si Georg Solti and stars Luciana Serra in her signature role as the Queen of the Night and Rene Pape in his incredible Sarastro. The production from 1991 is one that will delight opera fans.
Diva Cecilia Bartoli releases a DVD version of her latest album Mission. The DVD should follow in the footsteps of the acclaimed CD. She is joined by countertenor Philippe Jaroussky in what should delight baroque fans and Bartoli fans.
For Verdi fans, C major is releasing a set of all 26 Verdi works to celebrate his 200th anniversary. The set includes stars Leo Nucci, Nino Machaidze, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Daniela Dessi, Fabio Armiliato, Francesco Meli, Robert De Biasio, Marcelo Alavrez, Aleksandrs Antonenko, Marina Poplavskaya and Marco Berti.
Placido Domingo's legendary production of Penella's zarzuela El Gato Montes gets a rerelease. The production also stars Veronica Villareal and is directed by Emilio Sagi. Kultur releases.
For those looking for a christmas gift I recommend Jonas Kaufmann's Tosca or Konigskinder as well Elina Garanca's Romantique and Joyce Didonato's new album Drama Queens. If you are looking for a new Ring Cycle, I recommend the Met's new Grammy nominated Robert Lepage set. And if you are a baroque fan The Enchanted Island from the Met is one of the finest productions as of late.
