I saw it on the 14th with Dessay and last night with the understudy. I love this production. If I hear one more complamr about it I'll toss te person over the ledge on to Josie Robertson Plaza. More seriously, people are so full of it. No one likes it supposedly but they sell out every performance.
I saw the "encore" yesterday at a Cineplex theatre in Toronto and although unconventional performance, the acting of Natalie Dessay was extraordinary. Her "traviatta" is so real, so alive, so impossible not to understand and empathize with her drama that at times if her voice didn't sound quite the colour I was used to, I couldn't care less! She gave us a different but impressive and extremely emotional portray of the fallen woman.
How could they do that to Verdi's masterpiece and why did Dessay sing today?!!
