August sees the release of number of DVDs and CDs from around the world with Opera's greatest stars.
One of the most intriguing releases is Meyerbeer's opera Robert Le Diable. The cast includes breakout star Bryan Hymel, Patrizia Ciofi, John Relyea, and Marina Poplavskaya. Daniel Oren conducts Laurent Pelly's colorful production which received mixed reviews at the premiere at the Royal Opera House.
Virgin Classics will release Opera de Lille's production of Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea. The production stars Operalia winner Sonya Yoncheva and Max Emanuel Cencic. Emanuelle Haim conducts the stunning production.
The historical production of Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde from the Berlin Opera will finally be available. The DVD stars Rene Kollo and Gwyenth Jones as the two lovers struck by tragedy as well as Robert Lloyd and Hanna Schwarz. Jiri Kout conducts Gotz Friedrich's legendary production.
To celebrate Verdi's bicentennial Placido Domingo has recorded his first baritone album on Sony Classical. The recording includes works from Il Trovatore, Un Ballo in Maschera, Macbeth, La Forza del Destino, Don Carlo, and Simon Boccanegra. The CD is conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and is sure to be one of most talked about albums in the coming months.
Anna Netrebko's highly publicized album also celebrates Verdi's bicentennial . The recording marks the Diva's return to the recording studio in five years and features works by Macbeth, Giovanna d'Arco, Don Carlo, Il Trovatore and I Vespri Siciliani. The album will also feature Rolando Villazon in a single track of Il Trovatore. Gianndrea Noseda conducts the Orchestra Teatro Regio Torino.
Rolando Villazon and Yannick Nezet-Seguin's Mozart cycle continues with the release of "Cosi Fan Tutte." The CD includes Angela Brower, Miah Perrson, Mojca Erdmann, and Alessandro Corbelli and will be released by Deutsche Grammophon.
Christian Thielemann's new Ring Cycle will finally be released on CD. The recording features one of the most important conductors of our time and conducts the famed Wiener Staatsoper. Deutsche Grammophon releases the set.
