Jay Hunter Morris Rumored to Sing in The Flying Dutchman in 2017

Thanks to one of my readers I have found out that Jay Hunter Morris has The Flying Dutchman on his website schedule. The tenor is scheduled to sing the role of Eric in April and May of 2017. According to the Met Futures Wiki the cast will be lead by Christine Goerke and will also include Michael Volle as the Dutchman. The Met has not confirmed the news yet but if the singer has on his website it will most likely happen this way.

Jay Hunter Morris is best known for his role as Siegfried which he performed in Robert Lepage's latest production. He also performed Moby Dick at the Francisco Opera filling in for Ben Heppner.

Anna Netrebko to Sing Lady Macbeth at the Met

Anna Netrebko has revealed her future plans for the upcoming season. She revealed that she has already signed a contract with the Met to sing Lady Macbeth and that she will do a new production of Il Trovatore in Salzburg. She also said she would sing Manon Lescaut with Riccardo Muti conducting and would also sing Adriana Lecrouveur. She also plans on singing the role of Elsa in Lohengrin and the four last songs. A New Manon Lescaut and Meistersingers

The Met will get a new production of Manon Lescaut from Richard Eyre. The staging will be a co-production with the Baden Baden Festival that will premiere next year with Eva-Maria Westbroek. Stefan Herheim also announced that his new production of Der Meistersingers will be a co production the New York and Paris. 

Casting has not been announced for either production but hopefully Lescaut will star Anna netrebko and Jonas Kaufmann. For Meistersingers most likely Bryn Terfel and Johan Botha will be in the cast    

Notable DVD and CD Releases for the Month of February

January did not have many great releases but February promises to show diverse operas and rarities for people explore. 

The first release is of Rossini's rarely heard work Mose in Egitto. The production by Graham Vick was one of the most controversial at the Pesaro festival receiving a round of boos at the opening night. The Cast however is exceptional starring Sonia Ganassi, Riccardo Zanellato, Alex Esposito and Dimtry Korchak. Roberto Abbado leads over the Bologna Orchestra.

A Video of Jonas Kaufmann has been released with footage of his new album Wagner. The album is a celebration of the composer 200th anniversary.

Wagner's Dream premieres on PBS tonight

The documentary about the making of Robert Lepage's ring premieres tonight kicking off the one week long Ring Marathon. The film will air on PBS followed by tomorrow's presentation of Das Rhiengold.

Salzburg 2013 season rumors

 Salzburg comes to an end, rumors of the upcoming festival are already spreading. Like all houses, the Salzburg festival will celebrate the centennial of Wagner and Verdi with two Wagners and three Verdi's. They will also present one Rossini work and of course one Mozart.

The Verdi works that will be shown are Il Trovatore with a rumored Placido Domingo as Luna, Don Carlo with Jonas Kaufmann, Anja Harteros, and Rene Pape and Nabucco in concert.

The Wagner's will be Die Meistersinger with Michael Volle and a concert version of Rienzi.

Finally La Cenerentola and Cosi Fan Tutte will both get new productions. Cast have not been announced yet. More information to come very soon.
