Anna Netrebko's First Desdemona Live Stream

Anna Netrebko sings her first Desdemona at the Verbier Festival on July 25 along with Aleksandrs Antonenko as Otello. The performance will only include the first act of the opera and will also feature Alexy Markov as Iago. The second half of the concert will include Bryn Terfel in the third act of Die Walkure with Irene Theorin and Eva Maria Westbroek. Valery Gergiev will conduct the concert. San Francisco Opera 2013-2014 season announced

The San Francisco Opera has announced their 2013-2014 season. Patricia Racette will lead the season opening with Mefistofele as well as with Showboat and Madama Butterfly. Ramon Vargas, Dolora Zajick, Ildar Abdrazakov, Isabel Leonard, and Bryn Terfel also make up the lineup.

Notable DVD and CD releases for the month of October

The month of October sees the release of many new DVDs and CDs including two Toscas and more early Verdi to celebrate his 199th birthday.

A second DVD of Un Giorno di Regno is released with a cast that includes Anna Caterina Antonacci, Bruno 

Practico, Paolo Coni, and Cecilia Gasdia.The production from 1997 is directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi and conudcted by Maurizio Benini.   

Die Walkure premieres tonight on PBS

The second installment of the Ring Cycle premieres tonight. Two years ago I named this performance the best of HD of 2011 and it is truly an incredible performance with an all star cast that includes Deborah Voigt, Bryn Terfel, Jonas Kaufmann, Stephanie Blythe, Eva-Maria Westbroek, and Hans-Peter Konig. James Levine Conducts this exciting new ring.

Das Rheingold premieres on PBS!

After last nights preview with Wagner's Dream, tonight is the start of the Met's controversial new production of the Ring. Das Rheingold will air on PBS at 8pm. The opera stars Bryn Terfel, Stephanie Blythe, Eric Owens and Richard Croft. It is conducted by James Levine.

Two new DVDs for Jonas Kaufman and One for Renee Fleming

Decca has just announced the release of the Met's Rodelinda sung by Renee Fleming and Andreas Scholl. The DVD conducted by Harry Bicket also stars Stephanie Blythe and the production was directed by Stephen Wadsworth.

Jonas Kaufmann will have two new DVD releases this fall. The first being the long delayed Konigkinder with Isabel Rey from the Zurich Opera released by DECCA and finally the Royal Opera House will release Jonathon Kent's Tosca on EMI. The production stars Angela Gheorghiu, Bryn Terfel and Jonas Kaufmann and is conducted by Antonio Pappano. It will be released first in Europe and then later released in the USA.
